The climber Sebastian Berwick (Brisbane, 1999) becomes the fifth signing of the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA group Looking forward to next season, the first one does not come from the Caja Rural-Alea subsidiary team.
The Australian gathers an interesting background, who participated in two three-week races: a Vuelta a España and the Giro d’Italia of this same season, where he fought for victory in the complex finish of Rívoli (3rd).
“I saw Caja Rural-Seguros RGA as a very good opportunity to get a more relevant role within the team and get more opportunities personally in this important part of my career. I think with the support and enthusiasm I found I can achieve something exciting” declared the 23-year-old runner.
The Berwick stands out for its ability in the mountains, a terrain where it achieves its best performance during the three seasons he finished with the Israeli team. His outstanding Herald Sun Tour before the 2020 competitive break, finishing second only to Jay Hindley, helped him secure a top-flight contract.
During this time he knew how to take advantage of his opportunities in careers where he started with leadership stripes. In that way, He won a stage and second place in the Alpes Isère Tour last year and this July he won the general and queen stages of the Tour Alsace, coming to the demanding and high-profile Planche des Belles Filles. The Aussie extended his winning streak with another stage win and second place overall at the Tour of Hainan (2.Pro) before closing the course at the Tour of Guangxi.
A light runner, with clear room for improvement and on an upward curve as shown by his latest performances, he hopes to continue to grow and mature within Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, a team where he will have the freedom to exploit and develop his qualities for at least the next two seasons.
