It can’t be. The Athletic U21 team lost yesterday by a narrow margin against Everton in their second Premier League International Cup match. The red and white tried until the end, but they could not beat the goal which was defended by goalkeeper Crellin. A goal from winger Dobbin shortly before half-time made the difference in this hotly contested clash.
The pups were initially shocked by the physicality and speed of the locals. After gnashing their teeth at the back, inspired by goalkeeper Gastesi, the Bilbao team also began to show signs of life in attack, especially from set pieces. They were hurt by a local goal on the stroke of halftime.
Gurpegi came off the bench in the second half. Egiluz came on for Ebro on serve and Aloboniga-Menor and Gift came on the clock for Bita and Asensio. With Luis Bilbao in a more central position and Gift doing damage on the wing, Athletic’s chances started to happen. Opportunities are not lacking, success in front of goal is. The Everton goalkeeper also has a lot to do with it.
Gastesi played for the Bilbao team; Palacín, Duñabeitia (Sola 88′), Ebro (Egiluz 46′), Palacios; Bita (Gift 60′), Rego, Asensio (Alboniga-Menor 60′); Quicala (Vicandi 81′), Iñigo López and Luis Bilbao.
