Brighton beat Brentford at the Amex Stadium on the return thanks to a Jack Hinshelwood goal. The 18-year-old full-back, playing just his fifth game in the top flight, scored with a header from Pascal Gross’s cross before the hour mark.
Mbeumo put the visiting team ahead by converting a penalty but Gross leveled the contest with a superb left footed shot from outside the area moments later.
Mbeumo was later sent off with a serious ankle injury in a disappointing night for the visitors. In the 51st minute, Hinshelwood came on to give De Zerbi’s side the three points.
The winning outing by local player Hinshelwood, whose father Adam played 100 league games for Brighton between 2002 and 2009, earned his side their first home win since September 24 after three consecutive draws.
