Murcia hosts the first National of slow game amateurs

Date:

The tournament will bring together 400 players and the champions of each category will represent Spain at the World Cup in Malta

Murcia will be the center of national chess between August 30 and September 4, the days when the first Spanish championship is played by the Elo section [sistema de puntuación] at the Sports Palace. Amateur players from three categories will compete in the slow game mode; that is, with a time check: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game.

This national tournament will bring together more than four hundred male and female players, plus companions, from all over Spain and of all ages. In addition, the champions of each category will represent Spain at the next World Cup, which will be held in Malta. There will be over €9,000 in prizes to be won and the matches will be broadcast live.

This National was presented yesterday by the Mayor of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano, along with the Councilor for Sport Pedro García Rex, who were accompanied by Javier Ochoa, President of the Spanish Chess Federation, and Antonio Gallego, Head of the Murcian Federation.

“For the city it is an honor and a joy to host the Spanish Chess Championship, an unmissable event where talent, tactics, strategy and patience are the weapons to win. Our country has, year after year, acquired a world-class niche in this sport and this is confirmed by the triumphs of the Beniaján-Costa Cálida Duo, which won the Spanish division championship of Honor Teams last year,” said Highlander.

Councilor García Rex, for his part, explained that “with this new nomination of national importance, Murcia shows that it is an ideal location to host competitions such as this one. This is a new opportunity for our city to profile itself as a reference destination and organize events that have an economic impact on different sectors».
