South African rookie Casey Jarvis scored his second straight 67 and is one stroke ahead after the second round of the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Championship, played this Friday at Leopard Creek Country Club, next to Kruger Park , in Malelane (South Africa ).
Jarvis, 20, made six birdies and a bogey on the par-four 17th hole, in search of his first victory on the European circuit. He enters the weekend 10 strokes under par in the tournament. He was one stroke ahead of Englishman Marco Penge, who posted the lowest round of the day with a superb 66, with an eagle on the par-five 15th.
A quartet of players are one shot behind, including former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel (68) and South African amateur Christo Lamprecht (69), who won the 2019 Junior World Cup in Japan with Jarvis.
Lamprecht, 22, took Best Amateur honors at the British Open in July and is determined to stay in contention at the weekend.
Defending champion Ockie Strydom missed the cut after his second-round 78 left him five over par for the tournament.
For the Spaniards, Manuel Elvira is still in the top 10. He is 7th with -7, three strokes behind Jarvis, after scoring 71 strokes on Friday. Just -1 on the edge of the cut is Alejandro del Rey.
