The Barcelona-Catalunya circuit takes stock and presents its 2024 calendar

Date:

Before closing the 2023 sports year, the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit took stock of the year and revealed the 2024 sports calendar, which reveals several new features.

The Circuit closes the season with 91% occupancy, with a total of 332 activity days, 219 rental days and 113 racing days. 28 days have been invested to perform tasks and maintenance and there are only 5 days without any kind of activity. The 91% occupancy rate betters the records of recent seasons, and is the highest number in the last six years.

The Catalan track offers its facilities for many experiences such as private and collective training (for car competitions, motorcyclists and cyclists), incentive and training sessions, driving courses, filming, presentations, events, educational visits and more.

605,634 in attendance

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya opened its doors to 605,634 spectators, the second highest number in the last 10 years, surpassed only by 2013 with 618,896. The event that brought together the biggest crowd was once again the Formula 1 Spanish GP, with a total of 284,066 in attendance over the four days of the event. On Sunday, 125,565 people attended the Circuit. This is the fourth edition with the most attendance in the history of the Circuit, surpassed only by the editions of 2008, 2007 and 2006.

It is followed by the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP, with 152,065 in attendance over three days, 71,855 fans on Sunday alone and the Catalunya WorldSBK Round with 32,140 spectators passing through the Circuit over three days of activity .

16 sporting events for 2024

The 2024 sports course will have a total of 16 events, including some of the best championships in the world. Fans will enjoy three events in global competitions: the Pirelli Catalunya Round (March 22-24), the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP™ (May 24-26) and the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Spain (21- 23 June).

As a novelty, the Circuit will have the GT Winter Series, a competition that has already visited the Circuit on several occasions behind closed doors. On March 9 and 10, it will be the inaugural event on the calendar. As usual, the Circuit’s own races will also be present, as well as other international and national motorcycling and motorsport events.

€12,888,083 of economic impact on printed written press

The interest aroused by the activities held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is increasing. According to data from Onclusive (formerly Kantar Media), Circuit earned a written press impact of €12,888,083. This is the highest figure on record, far exceeding last year’s figure (€8,201,242). This upward trend has occurred since 2016 (4,491,816), and in just a few years media interest – and therefore its impact – has almost tripled.

The pieces of journalism published on topics related to the Circuit and its activities also increased, with a total of 1,712 news items that saw the light, compared to 1,657 last year.

Greater commitment to sustainability

The great milestone of the Circuit in terms of sustainability is to be the largest public self-consumption photovoltaic installation in Catalonia. This was done within the framework of the e-Mobility Experience, the fair dedicated to electric mobility held in October. That weekend, the roof panels of the Circuit’s Main Grandstand were inaugurated, a space with a total of 1,239 solar panels covering 2,710 square meters and generating an energy volume of 0.88 GWh per year. The amount of installed kWp is 615 (combined data for the Main Grandstand, canopy and roofs). In total, the installation will generate 33% of the energy consumed by the Circuit annually.
