Leo Messi and Inter Miami will begin the 2024 MLS season with a match against Real Salt Lake set for February 21 at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, according to the calendar published Wednesday by the American soccer league.
This will be the first time in MLS history that the season will open with a single match, with a start time set at 8:00 pm local time (2 pm in Spain on February 22).
The second game, against the LA Galaxy
The remainder of the first-day program will be played over the weekend of February 24-25, with fourteen games split between Saturday and Sunday.
Inter Miami will play again the same weekend in a unique match at the Los Angeles Galaxy field, which will mark the debut of the Los Angeles team after their parting with the Mexican striker. Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández.
Messi’s team will face three rivals for the first time in its history: Real Salt Lake, Colorado Rapids and Vancouver Whitecaps.
MLS has also chosen the iconic Rosebowl stadium in Los Angeles to host the derby between the Galaxy and Los Angeles FC, known as ‘El Tráfico’, scheduled for July 4.
The final, on December 7
The final day of the regular season will be played on October 19 while the final of the playoffs will be played in a match on December 7 at the field of the club with the best record in the regular season.
In 2024 the Leagues Cup will be played again, the tournament launched in 2023 that pits MLS clubs against Liga MX. Inter Miami defended the title won in 2023 in the final against Nashville.
