The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Associació Esportiva continues to make solid strides in its commitment to women’s cyclingand with the support of the Generalitat of Catalonia through Esportcat, from June 7 to 9, 2024, it will organize the first edition of the Volta a Catalunya in its female version, a three-day test stage that takes over from reVolta , after four edition held as a single day exam.

The test lasts for three days and gets a UCI 2.1 category.

In fact, several teams of the UCI Women’s World Tour have already confirmed their willingness to participate in the test, which has already been published in the UCI calendar for the 2024 season on the dates of June 7, 8 and 9.

The race will have three different stages with a presence in a good part of the Catalan territory, and one of them will have a high end. Located on the calendar in an ideal place to keep up with races such as the Giro Donne or the Tour de France Femmes, the Volta a Catalunya can attract great cyclists thanks to the variety of routes with an important presence of mountains.

The Minister of the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà Pons, described the upgrade of the Volta a Catalunya Femenina as “good news for Catalan cycling and for women’s sport” and emphasized that the financial support of the Generalitat of Catalonia “Shows we through actions. that this is the legislature of women’s sports.”

According to Councilor Vilagrà, the Volta a Catalunya Femenina “is a great opportunity to communicate to society the empowerment of women in cycling” and take another step towards a sport “with more equal opportunities for all”.

“We are taking a step further with our women’s event and we are excited to be a three-stage event. We have received a very good response, both from the Government of the Generalitat and from the General Secretariat of Sports and Physical Activity, number of populations interested in attracting and arriving and sponsors. The start and finish towns of the race, as well as the specified route, have been correctly defined, all and a high finish has been confirmed and the organization has found a good response from the towns willing to join the project this.

The Volta women’s race already has a remarkable record since it was held as a one-day race, with victories for well-known runners such as the British Claire Steels (Israel PT Roland, 2023), the German Clara Koppenburg (Cofidis , 2022), the Norwegian Katrine Aalerud (Movistar Team, 2021) or the American Lauren Stephens (Cylance ProCycling, 2018). In 2024, a new runner will debut among the winners of the first edition of the Volta a Catalunya.
