Andoni Lakabeg wore Athletic’s number 2 during the 1995-96 campaign. From there, from 1996-97 to 2000-01, there were five consecutive seasons where no lion wanted to wear that number. It was all due to superstition only, as several carriers of such number suffered their respective injuries.
Larrainzar, who previously wore 21, wore 2 during the 2001-02 and 2002-03 campaigns. Murillo took the baton. Finished Houses. Expósito also wore that number for the next three seasons (from 2005-06 to 2007-08).
Then it was Toquero. The striker from Gasteiz, a charismatic footballer during his well-used stage at Athletic, wore such a number from 2008-09 to 2014-15. Bóveda took over from 2 for three consecutive seasons. From there it was Kenan Kodro, Ganea, Morcillo and now Petxa, respectively.
