Pontevedra continues to make strides towards the 2024 European Cyclocross Championships

Once the bureaucratic procedures are overcome, and with the approval of the same European Cycling Union (UEC) and the Council of Pontevedra, everything continues on its path for the successful celebration of an event where the new European cyclocross champions will be raised. This cycling discipline, characterized by obstacles and circuits with a mixture of dirt and asphalt, saw the Belgian Michael Vanthourenhout take the last two titles in the men’s heat and the Dutch Fem Van Empel on the woman’s sleeve. The Dutch Mathieu Van der Poelcurrent Cyclocross and Road World Champion, also won three European titles between 2017 and 2019.

In addition, as a novelty, the 2024 European Cyclocross Championships will also include master rounds. An opportunity for over 30, 40, 50 and 60 years old categories to take part in the competition. The traditional elite, under-23 and junior competitions for men and women have been joined by more veterans to double the total number of participating athletes, who will run with the colors of their respective national teams. To continue all the previous work, a delegation from the organizing committee will travel on January 21 to Benidorm World Cup. This will be the last international cyclocross event on Spanish territory, before the European Championship.
