Date:

the dutch Joost Luiten delivered this Thursday a 65 stroke card (7 under par) to become the lone leader of Netherlands Openplayed until Sunday at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, where the best Spaniard, in four shots, was Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez.

Luiten, 36 years old and winner of six titles (two in this tournament, in 2013 and 2016) on the European tour (now DP World Tour), embroidered it on Cromvoirt with a round of eight birdies for a bogey .

The Dutchman, who has not won since 2018 (Oman Open), is a blow ahead of Danish Rasmus Hojgaard and Englishman Eddie Pepperell, who admitted not playing a practice round before his debut; and in two of the trio consisting of Frenchman Víctor Pérez, Finnish Mikko Korhonen, German Marcel Schneider and Italian Andrea Pavan.

Sebastián García Rodríguez, 33, from Madrid, was the best of the Spaniards, at twenty-two spots with a starting round of 69 (-3).

Pep Angles from Barcelona (-2) and Nacho Elvira from Santander, Adrián Otaegui from San Sebastian and Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño from Madrid also won on the field. The pair (72) was made by Jorge Campillo from Cáceres.

The legendary Seve Ballesteros won his first title in this tournament in 1976. His son Javier played at Cromvoirt and started on lap 75 (+3), but had no luck. He signed three birdies, blurred with a double bogey and four bogeys, three of them in a row on the first three holes.

The ‘Dutch Open’ shares three venues for the British Open. They will go to the top three non-exempt players who are in the top ten by the end of the tournament.
