Rahm changes McIlroy’s mind: “LIV is part of our sport”

Date:

Rory McIlroy showed his again change of mind in LIVwhich took place after the signing of Jon Rahm on the Saudi circuitand expressed his desire to reconcile both circuits because LIV “is now part of our sport.”

This is what he taught on the podcast ‘Stay in Football’, where he said he was one of the parties that asked for a union between the PGA and the Saudi circuit. “When I returned to the United States, I’m on the board of directors of the PGA Tour and I asked someone to talk to Yasir Al-Rumayyan (top leader of LIV)”, said McIlroy. That meeting, in fact, took place after the Masters and the foundations of the commercial agreement announced by both circuits in April had already been laid.

This one, however, was not completed by the December 31 deadline, so the PGA Tour is also negotiating with American investors. This situation seems to have changed McIlroy’s mind about LIV, of which he has been very critical in the past. In fact, he said that “if LIV is the last option on the planet to continue playing golf, I will retire.”

But McIlroy has softened his opinions on this circuit since Jon Rahm’s departure. He has always demanded that LIV players be allowed to continue competing in the Ryder Cup. Now he has gone too far. ““I think it was a small mistake on my part, because now I realize that not everyone is in my position or in the position of Tiger Woods.”, said Rory. “I can’t judge the players who make the decision to go to LIV,” he added.

McIlroy went even further when talking about Jon Rahm. “He doesn’t have the pressure that the first players have to go to the new circuit, but I think your decision is a wise one, especially if the circuits are going to come together. “Who am I to judge what Jon should do?” he said.
