American Coco Gauff, number 3 in the world ranking, achieved victory at the ATP 250 in Auckland (New Zealand) for the second time in a row by defeating Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in the final 6-7 (4), 6-3 and 6 -3, in two hours and thirty-five minutes.
Gauff, 19, reached the final after defeating compatriot Claire Liu in the first round, Czech Brenda Fruhvirtova in the second round, Frenchwoman Varvara Grachova in the quarterfinals and American Emma Navarro in the semifinals.
In the final, Gauff defeated Svitolina, who in 2023 returned to competition after her pregnancy with good results such as the semifinal at Wimbledon and the quarterfinal at Roland Garros.
The Auckland tournament was the seventh on the WTA Tour conquered by Coco Gauff, who with her victory in New Zealand became the fourth player to win two consecutive titles in the competition after her compatriot Patty Fendick (1988 and 1989), the Greek Eleni Daniilidou (2003 and 2004) and German Julia Görges (2018 and 2019).
