Acosta: “It will be a year of changes where we have no pressure”

Date:

Pedro AcostaMoto2 world champion, will make his debut in MotoGPqueen category of speed motorcycling, “with enthusiasm, but without pressure”, and admits that he has to work hard on the physical aspect “to be on the level of others in that sense.”

The Shark of Puerto de Mazarrón, as he is known, made these statements at the headquarters of Universee, a Higher Institute of Vocational Training whose facilities in Murcia he visited this Tuesday to give a master class to a hundred students of Automotive FP degrees. , specifically Transportation and Vehicle Maintenance.

At Universee, the only center in the country that provides specialized knowledge on hybrid and electric vehicles and driver assistance systems, Acosta sent a message to the students.

“It is a matter of pride that so many people from the Region of Murcia have dedicated themselves to the world of motorsport. and this is something that can not only be seen in workshops but also in high competition. I am sure that many students of the Universe dream of working in a racing pit and more than one of our mechanics will be trained from it,” said the company of the Institute’s Director of Communications, Ricardo Fernández, and the coordinator of the degrees. of Automotive, Pedro Guerrero.

The man from Mazarrón, who at the age of 19 turned on May 25 and double Moto3 and Moto2 world champion, felt in his element and spoke about his experiences and his goals in front of the journalists who visited the place.

“It will be a year of changes, of new things, where we have no pressure, which I set for myself years ago, because there was no defined goal but there was a lot of enthusiasm. We will take steps calmly and firmly because small differences mark good results,” he commented.

“In my first World Cup I went from 0 to 100 from only my parents knowing me and from watching races on television to everyone knowing who I am. I realized the things that suit me and those who don’t, always try to put our feet on the ground,” explained the athlete, who gave importance to the group.

“The team is everything. I try not to talk about myself, but about us and, although it is an individual sport, in reality it is also collective and the biggest change I experienced was from having six people in the team to having of 30 people working for a pilot,” he admitted.

Acosta, who before his World Cup experiences was declared champion of the 2020 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, is the youngest Spanish motorcycle racer in history to win the universal speed title.

In 2024, as a member of the Gas Gas team, many eyes are on him although he assures that the pressure is on others.

“Pecco Bagnaia won the last World Cup and Jorge Martín was also there and we all know who Marc Márquez is. Expect a MotoGP World Championship where the difference between all the riders is small and you can go from first place to fifteenth. I will go calmly and learn from the good drivers, although I will also try to make a few passes with them,” he said as a declaration of intent.

Acosta knows, in any case, that there are aspects in which he needs to improve, considering the experience he must gain in the premier category and the physical awareness that he will now ride a heavier motorcycle.

“The preseason is getting complicated because we finish the Moto2 World Championship at the end of November and on January 28 we go to Malaysia. to compete in the first MotoGP race. I emphasize physique because genetics have always made me thin, quite thin, when other pilots like Martín, Brad Binder and Jack Miller are like big men’s doors from the waist up and I need to improve that aspect to be at the level of others and in that sense I have to strengthen the upper body,” said Murcian, who also said he wants to be “close” to the fans and “give them what they want.”

In addition, he mentioned his participation in the sprint races, which will be held on the eve of the MotoGP race, and mentioned that “It will also be positive because of spending more time on the bike.”
