The Spanish tennis debacle at the Australian Open continues

The previous phase of the Australian Open was very unfavorable for Spanish tennis. If only Marina Bassols survived on Tuesday, this Wednesday everything did not go well and Only Oriol Roca Batalla qualified for the second round.

The Catalan player defeated Australian Philip Sekulic 7-5, 6-1 and the pass to the final round will be played this Thursday with the Czech Vit Kopriva.

The other two Spaniards making their debut on the men’s team made their first byes. Pedro Martínez fell to Italian Francesco Passaro 6-3, 6-2while Dani Rincón was defeated by South African Lloyd Harris (6-2, 6-2).

In the women’s team, bad news came Nuria Párrizas, who gave up after a very tough match against Australian Maddison Inglis by 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

With the elimination of Párrizas, the next morning, the only Spanish woman to pass the first round was added. Marina Bassols bid farewell to the second round after losing to Swiss Simona Waltert 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
