French football stadiums set record mid-season attendances

Date:

France’s first division stadiums set record attendances in the first half of the 2023/2024 season, with an average attendance of 26,742 spectators, reported French Professional Football League (LFPF).

In a statement, the LFP points out that the occupancy rate of the stadiums during that period was 84%, which represents 12% more than last year, when 23,773 spectators were counted.

This trend was witnessed by 13 of the 18 clubs that make up Ligue 1.

The most noticeable increase is for Brest with 26% compared to last year (up to almost 100% capacity, 15,000 spectators)closely followed by OGC Nice and AS Monaco, both with 18%.

The milestone was even more significant for the new promotions, which drew an average attendance of 23,539 viewers. Le Havre AC had 115% more spectators, a total of 21,320, and FC Metz saw its audience increase by 74% in a year.

Without any surprises, those who gathered the largest audience were the Olympique de Marseillewith 61,282 average attendance, Paris Saint-Germain with 47,094 and Olympique Lyonnais with 41,746.

These numbers are explained because the Marseille Velodrome It is the first French category venue with the largest capacity in France (67,394 followers), ahead of nearly 60,000 in the stadium Groupama of Lyon and the 48,000 of PSG Princes Parkwhich has long sought to have a coliseum that can hold up to 70,000 people.

Additionally, eight of the clubs recorded an occupancy rate of over 90%.

In particular, they are the Olympique de Marseille (93%), Paris Saint-Germain (98%), RC Lens (99%), Rennes (95%), Strasbourg (97%), Lorient (91%), Brest (97%) and Clermont Ferrand (91%).
