The Repsol Toyota Rally Team in the lead Isidre Esteve should complete the second part of the sixth stage of the Dakar this Saturday, the time 48 hours, due to a technical problem. The setback cost Isidre Esteve and Txema Villalobos 10 hours, and they were forced to stop 47 kilometers from the finish line to spend the night. The Spanish team will continue the march early this Saturday to reach the finish line of Shubaytah and, in this way, continue the race.
Last Thursday, the driver from Oliana (Lleida) and his co-driver from Calonge (Girona) arrived in camp “D”, the fourth of the seven distributed throughout this sixth special. With 402 timed kilometers covered (out of a total of 547), this Friday they still have 145 ahead of them. However, when they completed the third part of the special, the front differential broke, an almost insurmountable handicap in a time trial entirely on very soft sand dunes, in the inhospitable desert of the Empty Quarter.
Esteve and Villalobos tried to advance, with much difficulty, until night fell. So they decided to stop at the last of the seven camps, “G”, and complete the remaining kilometers the next day, already in daylight.
Now the goal of the team with the colors of Repsol, MGS Seguros, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing España and KH-7 is to take advantage of the rest day, which will take place this Saturday in Riyadh, to meet the caravan. To do this, they will have to travel about 1,000 kilometers to the capital of Saudi Arabia in one go, leaving them without the theoretical day of rest that the other participants can enjoy.
