Scaloni assumes he is moving on: “We have to move on”

Date:

The coach of Argentina, Lionel Scaloni He revealed on Wednesday that he was always thinking about “making room for young people” when he spoke about his doubts about continuing to lead the Albiceleste, which he guided to the Qatar 2022 World Cup title.

“There’s a lot of talk, but I always tell the truth. There are moments to think and figure out what to do. That’s not goodbye or anything, just wondering how the selection went. The moment is to also give space to the youngsters and that is important for us,” said Scaloni in an interview with Sky Sports Italia.

“It was amazing, but we moved on”

Scaloni has not officially said that he will continue to lead the Albiceleste, but, referring to the title achieved on December 18, 2022, he declared that what he experienced was “amazing”, although it was time to “move on” forward.

“To see your people, your friends and the country in general so happy, in such a difficult time as a country, is amazing. But now we have to move on. We enjoyed that joy, but we continued,” he said.

“Messi is happy, he will continue until he says otherwise”

Furthermore, the albiceleste coach defined the Leo Messi’s future role on the national team and said he sees her as “happy” playing soccer.

“This will continue until I say otherwise. I’m not the one to say he won’t come back. I think so, that he continues, especially since he is happy on the playing field. He was happy there. He really plays the ball. “We always say that he should continue until he can’t do it, because then he will have a hard time, but it will be hard for everyone not to see him on the field again,” said Scaloni.

It left its continuation on the air in November

In the press conference after the historic victory achieved by Argentina in Brazil in November, when as a guest it defeated the ‘verdeamarelha’ for the first time in Rio de Janeiro, Scaloni left his stay in office in doubt.

“I want some time to think because this team needs a coach with all the strength possible,” said the coach who made Argentina the champion of the 2021 Copa América, the 2022 Finalissima and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Scaloni made the announcement when answering the last question of the press conference and his response fell like a bombshell for Argentina’s journalists, especially since the coach did not want to give further details or explanations when he was asked about on whether he is thinking about resigning.

“Now it’s time to stop the ball and start thinking. I have a lot to think about this time. These players have given us a lot and I have to think,” he said then. “It’s not goodbye. I need to think because the bar is very high.”

The meeting with Tapia made everything clear

Just recently He was seen with Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), fixing the next calendar of the albiceleste, so its continuation, even until the Copa América held in the United States between June and July of this year, seems safe.
