And the best version of Biniam Girmay. The Eritrean cyclist achieved his first victory of the season on Thursday by being the fastest in the sprint of third edition of the Surf Coast Classic. Unlike the last two seasons Birmay chose Spain to start its season, this year it started filming Australia.
He ran first Santos Tour Down Under, where he has been on the verge of victory for three days and this Thursday he has taken the top spot on the podium in the third edition of the Surf Coast Classic. A race held over a distance of 158.6 kilometers, in between town of Lorne and Torquay which clearly invited a sprint.
Girmay won after a fierce sprint against the Italian Viviani and to New Zealanders strongin the first victory of the Eritrean cyclist since winning the second stage of Tour of Switzerland on June 12, 2023.
“Thanks to my team I got our first victory in 2024 and won for the third season in a row in January. This is important for confidence,” said Girmay.
Runner’s next appointment Intermarché-Wanty, on January 28 at Cadel Evans Great Ocean Racebefore starting the classic season.
