Asturian Pelayo Sánchez (Movistar Team) achieved the first Spanish victory in the Challenge Mallorca this Saturday by winning the sprint, in the Pollença-Port d’Andratx Trophy.
Sánchez, who inaugurated his record as a professional by winning a stage in the Vuelta a Asturias in August 2023, used a time of 03:44:52 hours to cover the 158.4 kilometers of the fourth Trophy of Mallorcan round .
Sánchez’s victory was the first of the season for a Spanish cyclist and, also, the first for the Movistar Team. He overtook German Marius Mayrhofer (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) and Russian Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe) at the finish line.
Also, Spanish rider Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates) was ninth, along with Sánchez. And the great test animator is another Spanish cyclist, Igor Arrieta (UAE Team Emirates).
The Pollença-Port d’Andratx Trophy route is very demanding for the cyclists of the 23 teams registered in the event that will open the international season.
The first 50 kilometers take a flat route, until reaching the Coll de Femenies, second category. Then, the route demands more from the peloton, with accumulated slopes reaching 2,700 meters before heading to the Coll de Sa Gramola, a third climb in the category.
The Challenge Mallorca ends this Sunday with the Palma Trophy, 150 kilometers, starting and finishing at the Palma Cathedral.
