F1 never ceases to surprise. The most technologically advanced category in history would have saved itself a great deal of ridicule if, in the 21st century, they used something we all have at hand: the telephone.
On Wednesday, the F1 released a statement in which it denied Andretti’s presence in its championship at the premiere of new engine regulations in 2026year where they want to reach ‘Gran Circo’ with Cadillac as Andretti Cadillac. This text explains the complex process Andretti followed in his application. The FIA has ensured that the application has met the selection criteria and they must proceed with the process. The next step they need to take is explained in the fourth point of the said statement. Andretti had to meet with F1, something he did not do as he did not show up for the meeting with Liberty Media (F1 owners)
“Having had the opportunity to consider the Applicant’s responses along with our own discussions, we then wrote to the Applicant on December 12, 2023 extending an invitation to a personal meeting to our offices for the Applicant to submit his application, but the Applicant did not accept this offer,” explained F1.
And a day later, the FIA issued a statement confirming that it was rejecting Andretti’s entry request because “we do not believe that the applicant is a competitive participant” and because “Having an eleventh team does not, by itself, add value to the Formula 1 World Championship”. But there is the question of what would have happened if Andretti had come to the meeting.
Andretti’s surreal response
A day later, this Friday, the mess got worse when Andretti released a statement in which he made sure that he did not show up at the said meeting because he did not read the F1 invitation email to the said meeting. It doesn’t seem true, but they say that… the email is in the spam folder and they didn’t read it!
“We are not aware that the offer of a meeting has been extended and we will not refuse a meeting with the management of Formula 1. A personal meeting to discuss business matters will be and remain of the utmost importance to Andretti Cadillac. We appreciate the opportunity to meet with Formula 1 management and we wrote to them confirming our interest,” said Andretti, requesting a second chance to, this time, appear at the event.
