Jon Rahm, premiering at LIV and where his successful career began

Date:

Expelled from the PGA Tour at the end of 2023, which obviously did not allow him to defend the titles of the Tournament of Champions in Maui (Hawaii) and the Amex in La Quinta (California), Jon Rahm’s long-awaited debut at LIV Golf has dates and schedules. The Spanish golfer, after his historic, controversial and surprising signing for the Saudi Super League, will start the season today, Friday at the El Camaleón Golf Course in the Mayakoba complex, in Playa del Carmen, the nerve center of the Mexican Riviera Maya, which there is a 54-hole tournament over three days, which will distribute 20 million dollars in prizes, of which 4 will be for the winner and five will be distributed among the best in the team category. This debut can be seen live on television in Spain through the Golf 2 channel on Movistar+, on dial 68 of the Movistar+ payment platform, which has acquired the rights to the tour (broadcasts are from 7:00 pm to 7 :00 pm 01.00 hours).

A curious fact is that Rahm’s career began precisely in this field. First as a beginner (two editions) and then once as a professional. In 2014 he played his first (and this year’s only) tournament on the PGA Tour. Jon didn’t make the cut after posting laps of 70 and 73. In 2015 he finished tied for 10th in what was his third event of the year on the American circuit (still as a rookie), after to finish in a tie for 5th in Phoenix and 64th in The Travelers, with laps of 69, 68, 66 and 70. In 2016, clearly a professional, he tied for 50th with cards with 67, 69, 69 and 73. This was his 12th tournament of the season. In June, after finishing 23rd at the USA Open, he turned pro, achieving several top 10s.

The Basque comes to LIV with his new team, Legion XIII. This is the first of 12 confirmed Super League matches. “We’ve come a long way in a short time and we’re proud of the team and the brand we’ve built,” Rahm said. “As we built the team’s brand, it became clear that I wanted to compete alongside a group of guys that were completely aligned with what the team stands for,” added Jon. “The addition of Legion XIII is a testament to LIV’s continued growth as our league builds for the long term,” said LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman. “Jon is one of the best golfers in the world and his team will have an immediate impact on the tour on and off the golf course,” highlighted the ‘shark’.

Rahm has achieved 20 victories in his professional career, including the 2023 Augusta Masters, the 2021 US Open and the DP World Tour Championship on three occasions (2017, 2019, 2022). Rahm has played in three consecutive Ryder Cups, with the European team winning in 2018 and 2023. Last year, Rahm won four times, finishing 2nd in the British Open and 2nd in the FedEx Cup.
