Tiger Woodsill, retired this Friday from Genesis Invitational on the seventh hole of his second round at Riviera Country Clubin Pacific Palisades (California, United States).
The former world number 1 returns to competitive golf this week as the tournament host. Tiger has not played an official tournament on the American PGA circuit since then August Masters last year, 10 months ago, when he decided to have ankle surgery.
Woods, 48, shot 72 strokes +1 on Thursday and admitted at his press conference that he was experiencing back pain and leg pain, also the result of a serious car accident he suffered in February 2021.
Woods opened Friday’s round with a birdie and made back-to-back bogeys on holes 4 and 5. After saving par on the sixth hole and hitting a drive on the seventh, Tiger decided to withdraw from the tournament after feeling unwell.
PGA Tour rules official Mark Dusbabek told the Golf Channel broadcast that Woods was not feeling well and withdrew due to pain, and that he “hadn’t told them before” that it was because of discomfort in his back.
