Oliver Glasner, new manager of Crystal Palace

Date:

Crystal Palace have made Oliver Glasner’s arrival in the Selhurst Park Stadium dugout official following the resignation of Roy Hogson, who announced his resignation as soon as he left hospital following an accident he sustained in training on Thursday.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt coach has been out of a job since leaving the German club at the end of last season, despite having one year left on his contract. In Frankfurt he was a real idol, because in the two seasons in which he was at the club he managed to reach two finals, one in the Europa League and another in the Pokal. In the European final they defeated Rangers in a penalty shootout (5-4) and became the new champions. In the German Cup they lost to Leipzig.

Along the way, their fans left marks for history, taking over all the cities where Frankfurt played a match. A victory worth remembering was achieved at Camp Nou in the quarterfinals (2-3). They had no luck in the European Super Cup against Real Madrid, where they lost (2-0).

Play style

Their teams are characterized by playing with a 1-5-3-2 with two ultra-offensive wingers. Although if one thing is non-negotiable it is choral work, where individuals are at the service of the group and not the other way around. Midfielders tend to be quite defensive and need a lot of work, as almost all football is developed from the outside to provide good balls to the forwards.

Their most immediate challenge is to keep Palace away from the relegation spots where they currently have a margin of 5 points.
