RCD Mallorca presents its candidacy to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) so that Antonio Asensio Sports City is one of the sub-headquarters of World Cup to be held in 2030 in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, as well as in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. According to the Balearic club, the RFEF has already carried out the relevant audits to “accept the request” it made.
Spanish football’s governing body “has confirmed that the remodeled facilities of the first team and grassroots football meet the necessary requirements,” Mallorca detailed in a statement.
If finally chosen, RCD Mallorca, Palma and the whole island will become one of the sub-headquarters of one of the teams participating in the most important competition in world football. The Majorcan Sports City facilities, also known as Son Bibiloniis located in the municipality of Palma and was designed by the architect Guillem Reynés.
Opened in 1998, it hosted training sessions for several European teams and the national teams of Argentina, Germany and Spain. It has four regulation football fields, made of natural grass, of 7,140 square meters (105 x 68) each in addition to four plots, of 665 square meters each for goalkeeper training.
They are completed by various spacious and modern changing rooms, a complete gym, heated therapeutic pool, whirlpool, sauna, medical area, press room, social club and sports office.
