Canada faces El Salvador and Paraguay struggles but beats Costa Rica

Date:

The women’s group Canada lost this Thursday to Houston 0-6 The Savior at the close of the first day of the Group stage of golden cup shortly after attending the narrow 0-1 victory of Paraguay about Costa Rica.

Despite a big difference in goals, Canada and Paraguay lead Group C of the tournament to be held in the United States with three points. Canada now joins the ‘club of the highest scorers’, which consists of Colombia, who on Wednesday beat Panama 0-6 in the opening of Group B, and the United States, who on Tuesday crushed the Republic of Panama 5 -0 . Dominican in A.

After three days of activity at the Gold Cup, which brings together eight Concacaf countries and four invited teams from Conmebol, nineteen goals have been scored in six games. The list of scorers is led by two goals of the American Olivia Moultrie, the Colombian Manuela Pavi and the Canadian Adriana Leon.

The joy of the El Salvador team at eliminating the Guatemala team in the play-off for entry to the Gold Cup was short-lived because of the Olympic champions, who came out to show their status as favorites. Chloe Lacasse woke up early Thursday after three minutes to score the first of six goals for the Canadian women’s team on Salvadoran Idalia Serrano’s goal.

In the 24th minute Jordyn Huitema stepped up, and in the 28th and 59th minutes Adriana Kristina Leon appeared to pave the way for the win. The Aston Vila midfielder’s second goal was a penalty. The fifth goal at the Shell Energy Stadium was scored by Chelsea defender Kadeisha Buchanan in the 62nd minute.

Coach Beverly Prietsman’s students never took their foot off the accelerator against an opponent with no margin. Olivia Smith scored the sixth goal for Eric Acuña Jubís’ team in the 86th minute. On the second day of Group C, next Sunday, Paraguay will face Canada and Costa Rica will also play El Salvador.

Spanish player Chamorro, decisive for Paraguay

A goal by Lice Chamorro Gómez, a Spanish player, gave victory to the Paraguayan team in the 51st minute against Costa Rica in the first match of Group C of the Women’s Gold Cup.

As a result, Conmebol got so far the third victory of the South American team in the tournament organized by Concacaf, after the victories of Colombia (0-6 against Panama) and Brazil (1-0 against P.Rico) in Wednesday in Group B. The other representative of Conmebol, Argentina, drew on Tuesday (0-0) with Mexico in A.

At the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston (Texas), Costa Rica dominated most of the action in the first half and created dangerous plays that they could not complete. The first warning was a shot in the 7th minute from about 30 meters by Gloriana Villalobos that fell off the vertical and on the rebound María Paula Salas met Paraguayan goalkeeper Alicia Bobadilla, who drowned in the goal cry.

The Ticos didn’t budge and continued their attack, albeit somewhat erratically. In the 25th minute, an alleged handball in the area, after a shot by Villalobos, was allowed as a penalty but VAR overruled the action as it was found that the ball hit the red-white defender’s chest.

After the break, the Paraguayans came out again and were ready to attack Costa Rica with everything, with goalkeeper Daniela Solera challenging and responding to the offensive of the South American team. But in the 51st minute Chamorro’s goal came when with one touch he sent the ball that Dahiana Bogarín threw from the left side towards the far post.
