Aliou Cissé has renewed his contract as coach of Senegal until the 2026 World Cup despite his disappointing participation in the Africa Cup, a tournament in which he defended the title won in 2021, but in January he was eliminated in the round of 16 on penalties against hosts Ivory Coast , who will be the champion.
“The executive committee renews its confidence in coach Aliou Cissé and urges him to continue his mission with a view to achieving future goals, especially qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup and 2026 World Cup,” he said. Cissé, 47 years old, assumed office in March 2015 and led Senegal to win the first African Cup in its history in 2021 (beating Egypt on penalties) after reaching the final in 2019 (losing against Algeria 0-1).
