Benjamin Mendy was charged with rape

Date:

Benjamin Mendy, Manchester City’s French side, has been charged with yet another rape of another woman, according to judicial sources. The player is awaiting trial after being charged with seven rapes, one attempted rape and one sexual assault.

On May 23, when he appeared in Chester court, Mendy was not guilty of all the charges against him previously filed by the six women.

But now that another rape accusation, brought by another woman, has been added to the list, the judge presiding over the hearing ordered the press not to mention it until today this ban is lifted.

Mendy, who has not yet been formally notified about this new charge, does not have to decide his defense.

The ten allegations against Mendy relate to events that allegedly took place between October 2018 and August 2021 at his home in Prestbury, Cheshire.

The trial, set for July 25

The player will face a jury trial on July 25, along with a co-defendant, Louis Saha Matturie, 40, unrelated to former soccer player Louis Saha.

Prosecuted for eight rapes and four sexual assaults on eight women between July 2012 and August 2021, Saha also pleaded not guilty.

After several months in preventive detention, Mendy, world champion with France in 2018, was released in early January and placed under judicial supervision, pending his trial, which begins on July 25.

The case will begin in August 2021

The case began at the end of August 2021 when Manchester City announced the player’s suspension, with a contract until June 2023, without further explanation.

English justice then announced that Mendy had been placed in preventive detention after being accused of four rape and sexual assault of three women, including a minor. Other charges were added later.

From the most expensive defense to failure

Trained at Le Havre, Mendy met in Marseille and spent a season in Monaco before becoming the best defender in history in 2017 when City paid € 57.5m for his services. .

When he came to City, he was considered one of the most promising left-backs, but his career has been hampered by injuries and he has yet to really live up to the hype sparked by his move.
