The American golfer Brice Garnett won this Sunday Puerto Rico is open 2024 by defeating his compatriot Erik Barnes on the fourth hole of the eliminatory of the maximum PGA Tour tournament on the island.
Garnett, 40, beat Barnes, 36, by four strokes on the par-5 fourth hole at Grand Reserve Golf Club, in Río Grande, a city in northeastern Puerto Rico.
Barnes had a chance to extend the tie, but he dropped five shots on the final par 5. Garnett completed Puerto Rico’s fourth round at -3 under par, making three birdies and no bogies.
It was Garnett’s second PGA Tour career title. The first was in 2018, at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship, in the Dominican Republic. Garnett finished in the top five players in five other tournaments and in the top ten 13 times.
Third place in Puerto Rico was a three-way tie at -18 under par between Frenchman Víctor Pérez and Americans Hayden Springer and Jimmy Stanger.
The best Latino is Colombian Nico Echavarría, winner of the 2022 tournament, finishing in 15th position with -14 under par, followed by Puerto Rican Rafa Campos, with -13, in a five-way tie for in 20th place.
