Why is there a draw for the Champions League final?

Date:

This Friday, starting at 12 noon, the draw will be held for the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where four teams have already qualified, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern and PSG. Between this Tuesday and Wednesday the other four teams leading the quarterfinals will be decided. But the draw contained, even before it took place, more than one peculiar aspect.

Remember that this Tuesday, starting at 9:00 pm, the return corresponds between Barcelona and Naples (1-1 in the first leg at the Diego Maradona stadium) and in between Arsenal and Porto (1-0 for the ‘dragoes’ in the first round). On Wednesday they play Atlético-Inter (1-0 for the European runners-up in the first leg) and the Borussia Dortmund-PSV (1-1 in the first round, in Eindhoven).

What many do not know is that, as UEFA explained, this Friday, March 15, not only will the draws be held for the quarterfinals and semifinals… but also for the final, which will take place on June 1 at the legendary Wembley stadium.

The answer to why there is a draw for the final is due to a UEFA administrative issue: the decision on said draw is which finalist team will be the home team and which will be the visitor, depending on which part of the draw they come from.
