Rohan Dennis’ trial has been postponed due to the death of his wife, Melissa Hoskins

The Australian prosecutor’s office on Wednesday requested more time to investigate the death of former Olympic cyclist Melissa Hoskins in a fatal accident that occurred on December 30, for which his wife was responsible, he too former cyclist Rohan Dennis.

The state prosecutor of South Australia, Caroline Batten, said now in front of him City of Adelaide Magistrates Court that his office needs seven months, counting from the day of the event, to reconstruct the events and determine the final charges against Dennis, public broadcaster ABC published.

Currently, Dennis, former time trial world champion in 2018 and 2019, is accused of South Australian Police for reckless driving resulting in death, among other negligent offenses.

Following the request of the prosecution, the magistrate Simon Wise set another hearing on August 6 to address the case pending the determination of the charges against Dennis.

An Australian magistrate also granted the lawyer’s request today Jess Kurtzerdefending the former cyclist, to waive his client’s obligation to report as a requirement for his temporary release, the source added.

Former cyclist Melissa Hoskins, 32, died in a hospital in the southern city of Adelaide after being hit by a car near her home on December 30, 2023.
