This Sunday, Max Verstappen had to experience the bitter side of Formula 1. Accustomed to winning every race without breaking a sweat, the Dutchman was forced to abandon the Australian GP after seeing his brakes explode.
“The brake on the right rear wheel was stuck from the start. The temperature does not stop rising until the fire burns out. When there’s a brake like that, it’s like a handbrake. I had a panic attack after the first lap and then the temperature kept rising. “I didn’t know it at the time, but I noticed that there was a problem with the balance of the car,” explained Verstappen after the race. He wanted to clarify to whom the cry of “stupid” he saw said in the box was directed.
“I mean why are we changing a tire with a burning car?” said the world champion, who was “disappointed not to finish the race, I think we will have a good chance to win. But these are things that cannot be controlled.”
“We had a great two-year run, but the important thing is to find out what happened now. I like to win, we have had very good consecutive races but I knew that this day will come, unfortunately it had to be today” he concluded.
