Mitchell knew the shot was good, but something got in his eye as he followed the flight of the ball and he had to duck to wipe his eye. Then he heard a loud scream, looked up and realized the ball had fallen into the hole.
“When I looked up, something caught my eye, so I turned and didn’t see the ball go down, but I knew, when I hit it I was satisfied with the contact,” explained the American.
“Obviously, there is some luck in this, but the good thing is that I hit the shots I wanted. I guess I should say that if I hit shots like that I will have a chance to win on the last day. Here, with the wind, small greens, small fairways, you can hit great shots and there’s no reward,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell became the first golfer in tournament history to complete the infamous ‘Snake Pit’, holes 16, 17 and 18 of the Innisbrook Resort course in Palm Harbor (Florida), with four strokes under par, as he achieved two. birdies on 16 and 17.
