Data showing that Spanish motorcycling is again number 1

Date:

Only two Grand Prix have been completed in Qatar and Portugal, but they are enough to show that Spanish motorcycling is coming back from strength, dominating the program’s three categories with an iron fist. Jorge Martín in MotoGP, Arón Canet in Moto2 and Dani Holgado in Moto3 emerged from Portimao as leaders after signing the Spanish total of wins to add or another triplet on the podium that took place in the small category.

To find the last time that Spanish motorcycling led the three categories of the program, we have to go back to 2019 twice, to the GP of Catalonia and the GP of the Czech Republic in Brno, Marc Márquez in MotoGP, Àlex Márquez in Moto2 and Arón Canet in Moto3 topped the tables. At the end of the championships, only the Márquez brothers were crowned and the Valencian lost to the Italian Lorenzo Dalla Porta.

The first time that Spanish motorcycling led in three categories was in 2009 after the French GP in Le Mans when Jorge Lorenzo led by 1 point over his teammate Rossi in MotoGP, Álvaro Bautista by 1 point in Japanese Aoyama in 250cc and in 125cc Julián Simón got 5.5 points from Bradley Smith.

The strongest year was 2010, the year of the first triplet of titles in Spanish motorcycling with Lorenzo, Elías and Marc Márquez, who from Le Mans, third GP, to the end -16 Grands Prix- dominated the classifications . Lorenzo and Elías led MotoGP and Moto2 with an iron fist and in 125cc they overtook the lead, Terol, Pol Espargaró and Marc Márquez who took the crown.

There were also triple leaders in 2012 -3 GP-, 2013 and 2014 -5 GGPP- and then they stopped until 2019. After Portimao Martín has a margin of 18 points with Brad Binder in MotoGP. In Moto2, Arón Canet has two points over the American Joe Roberts and his backs are covered, Manu González is 4 points away, Sergio García Dols is 5 points away and the first leader Alonso López is 6 points away. And in Moto3, Dani Holgado leads by 7 points over Colombian Hispanic David Alonso and 22 over Iván Ortolá.
