The Vuelta Femenina of Carrefour.es starts this April 28 with a 16-kilometer team time trial in Valencia. It will be the only CRE in the first division of world cycling this season.
La Roja candidates should be competitive on this first day. Not in vain, the top five of the CRE that opened the inaugural edition of this race put one cyclist in the top5 of the final overall.
For some it is the best discipline of road cycling; for others, the most ruthless. It demands the most intimate collaboration, the most powerful of machines, the most refined of techniques, the most intelligent techniques, the most optimized of materials, the most millimeter of preparations. And, even in all things, a blow of wind or bad luck is enough to ruin all the work. It is the test of time of the team or CRE, loved and cursed in equal parts.
For now, team time trials are a ‘rara avis’. Hence the uniqueness of La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.es 24’s commitment to inaugurate a CRE that will be the only one in the UCI Women’s WorldTour, the first division of world women’s cycling, this season; thing that, by the way, happened last season. Therefore, the 14.5 kilometers of the race against the clock in Torrevieja were followed closely by the fans, as well as the 16 kilometers on April 28 in Valencia.
In the 2023 La Vuelta Femenina of Carrefour.es, the top five teams in the inaugural Torrevieja time trial put a cyclist in the top five in the final overall standings. The Jumbo-Visma (currently Visma | Lease a Bike) of Riejanne Markus (4th final) won by a second over the Canyon//SRAM of Ricarda Bauernfeind (5th). The German team, by the way, is the historical king of the modality with at least five of the seven CRE World Championships for commercial teams held decorating its record. Gaia Realini’s Trek-Segafredo (now Lidl-Trek) was third in Torrevieja (3rd). They were followed by Annemiek van Vleuten’s Movistar Team, the eventual winner, and Demi Vollering’s SD Worx, second on the final podium. Whoever wants to bring home La Roja must be very high in Valencia.
