Athletic is mired in the middle of an electoral struggle, so it’s no surprise that proper names appeared at particular moments of this fight to reach Ibaigane’s seat. This time it was Ander Herrera. The Bilbao-born footballer has endorsed one of three pre-candidates seeking the presidency of the rojiblanco club, but his interest in sports is focused solely and exclusively on continuing with PSG.
“I have admiration, respect and a lot of love for Athletic, but I am not going to any candidacy and I will continue in Paris next year at 100%”, Herrera himself commented on the information collected by Cope.
This whole story around Ander Herrera arose this afternoon when Radio Bilbao announced that the footballer, an Athletic member, had given his signature to Iñaki Arechabaleta, one of the three pre-candidates for the Ibaigane chair, with aim to gain candidate status. Coincidentally, the former teammate of the PSG footballer himself during his time at Athletic, Fernando Amorebieta, managed to deliver the said guarantee along with himself.
Since then, speculation has begun about Herrera’s possible return to Athletic in case the aforementioned candidate wins, but the footballer’s response has not been long. Despite what was said about the alleged blacklist made by Mbappé, the ex-rojiblanco clarified his intention not to move from Paris and, therefore, never to return to Bilbao.
