Another perfect weekend for Jorge Prado in Sardinia

Date:

The Galician Jorge Prado, The reigning champion, consolidated his dominance in the MXGP World Championship by completing the triplet at the third round of the season, the Sardinia Grand Prix (Italy).

After his victories in the Argentine GP in Villa La Angostura and Spain in Arroyomolinos, the Lugo driver once again showed his great moment of form at the beginning of the season and on the sand of the Riola Sardo circuit he did not give his drivers a choice opponent

On Saturday he won the qualifying race and this Sunday he won the same round, in both cases ahead of two other famous world champions such as Slovenian Tim Gajser (Honda) and Dutch Jeffrey Herlings (KTM).

In the first race, although the Swiss Jeremy Seewer (Kawasaki) achieved the ‘holeshot’ (first place in the first corner), Prado quickly took the lead ahead of Gajser (Honda). He gradually consolidated first place and although the Slovenian tried to apply pressure and with three laps to go was only 1.7 away, the Spaniard pushed again and distanced himself to win with a 5,279 lead.

In the second, the current world champion may be the fastest at the start. He never left the first place. At the back, Herlings seemed to be the only one capable of keeping up, but a fall caused him to lose second place to Gajser, who crossed the finish line in 16.624.

In general classification, JOrge Prado dominates with 174 points, 17 more than Gajser. Herling was third with 125 and Frenchman Romain Febvre (Kawasaki) was fourth with 123.

“I couldn’t have asked for more, on a very bumpy and complex track and in the heat, you have to be very focused to avoid mistakes and I was able to maintain control of the race at all times,” declared the Spaniard .

“I made a good start, I maintained a good pace and I’m happy because the work of the whole team and the hard winter training are paying off,” said the GasGas driver after winning his third consecutive Grand Prix. Next week the Trentino GP will be held at the Pietramurata circuit.

In the test of Women’s World CupThe Spanish Daniela Guillén (GasGas) now leads the overall standings with Dutch Lotte van Drunen (Yamaha) with 94 points, eighteen ahead of Dutch Lynn Valk (KTM).

Van Drunen won both races ahead of Guillén, who came very close to victory in the first race and lost by eighteen seconds in the second.

The driver from Lloret de Mar made a strong comeback in the first race until he dominated clearly, but the Dutchwoman started to come closer until she overtook him shortly before the end. In the second the decoration is similar, but the distance between the two has become greater, with the Spaniards ‘held’ in one hand.

The next round of the Women’s World Championship is the Galicia GP at the Jorge Prado municipal circuit on May 11 and 12.

In MX2, Dutchman Kay de Wolf (Husqvarna) won again, sharing the day’s victories with his Belgian teammate Lucas Coenen. He leads the overall standings with a 29-point lead over German Simon Laengenfelder (GasGas).
