If there is one player who has had a bad reputation in the Premier League Joe Bartonwho, despite being retired, avoids being at the center of controversy and in recent weeks several misplaced sexist and sexist comments have gone viral.
Today’s commentator has been unmasked by Jamie Hedgeswho was with him when Barton is coach of Bristol Rovers. Aldershot Town’s now head of recruitment (just 23 years old), described the former Newcastle midfielder as a ‘bully’ and revealed how difficult he made him.
“It happened after we lost 2-1 to Wigan in midweek. It was a Thursday and I was on the computer doing my analyst job with the rest of the staff and Joey came in and I could tell he was angry. He just looked at me. and he was even more angry. He took a ball in the room, pointed at me in front of everyone and said ‘hey, come out and do 50 touches or I don’t want to see you.’ At first I kind of laughed, but he said he was serious.”begins by saying Hedges who explained that “I was still young, I obviously went out and I couldn’t do it. My role has nothing to do with being a football player. I watch, I don’t play.”
The episode did not end there Barton. “I went back to the office and said to all the staff ‘this is the crap I have at this club and you’re not going to have a career in this sport’. He said he doesn’t want to see me anymore. It was probably the first time I ever talked to him,” Hedges said, admitting that “I’m not going to lie, I was really hurt. I work for my club and I have never worked so hard. Things didn’t go well but that’s football. If he tells me to chat and explains that he wants to go in a different direction I understand. The way he did it was wrong. He’s just a bully. I think he waited until the person who defended me was gone. The first day Tommy was away, he decided to follow me.”
Barton denied this
Joey Barton, instead of apologizing for what happened, took to his ‘X’ account to try to deny what Hedges explained about his past.
“It’s an article that Jamie made up. It’s full of lies. He’s a fantasist who became a spy for Tommy Widd on our campus. It was proven by Widd who hired him for the last two jobs he had, ” explained Barton, insisting that ” ask him.” why the chairman of Bristol Rovers fired him. I have 8 witnesses to the aforementioned touching incident. All are ready to give evidence against it. Jamie was sacked because, like most of the club at the time, they were bad at their jobs. Really incompetent”.
It didn’t end there. Barton threatened that “if the Bristol Post does not remove the article within the next 24 hours and apologize for the falsehoods printed in it, I will be forced to get my legal team involved. The ball is in their court.”
