“We cannot have more than 22 races, there will be less in Europe”

Date:

On Thursday’s MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas, Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dornagave a press conference with Dan Rossomondo, commercial director, and Carlos Ezpeleta, sports director, to provide details about the future of the championship after Liberty Media, owner of F1, acquired 86% of the company’s shares.

All expressed enthusiasm for the treaty. “They have an incredible track record in developing sports assets. It is an agreement that enhances the value achieved by MotoGP and I am happy with the possibility that I can reach more fans,” said Carmelo.

It has been repeated on all occasions that they do not want to change the essence of motorcycling, just give it more visibility. This means opening up to new markets and where it will be most noticeable is in the calendar. “We cannot do more than 22 races. If we open up to new markets, as we should, there will certainly be fewer races in Europe. But 2027 is not new.” Until then, everything will remain the same.”

Regarding the entry of new teams to the MotoGP grid, Carlos Ezpeleta clarified that the arrival of Liberty does not undergo any kind of change.
