Dani Olmo brought Leipzig into the Champions zone

Date:

A goal, the one that put victory on the way, and an assist taken by the Belgian Lois Openda to seal the match, established the Spaniard Dani Olmo as the architect of the victory of Leipzig against Wolfsburg (3-0 ) which put them in fourth place of the Bundesliga, in the Champions League zone.

A draw and now five games won supports Marco Rose’s team, who keep a pulse on Borussia Dortmund in the bid for that place.

Leipzig did not disappoint at the Red Bull Arena and just before the quarter-hour mark they pulled the match back when Olmo received a pass from Xaver Schlager with his back. The Spaniard turned around and executed a sharp and powerful shot that beat goalkeeper Pavao Pervan.

The local team maintained its form, and the match did not end until the last period. In the 68th minute they extended the lead with a goal from Benjamin Sesko from Xavi Simons’ pass and finished it off in the 82nd minute, when an assist from Dani Olmo was completed by Belgian Lois Openda . Leipzig are fourth, level on points with Borussia Dortmund and four behind third-placed Stuttgart.

Bochum avoided defeat at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion against Heidenheim (1-1) and breathed a sigh of relief in the face of the threat of relegation. The star of the match was Keven Schlotterbeck, who scored both goals. In the 81st minute, he put the ball in his own goal and gave the visitors an advantage, but in the 90th minute he made his mistake and, with a header, achieved a tie for the team of Heiko Butcher.

Bochum marked permanence. They are five points behind penultimate, Cologne, in direct relegation, and four points behind third from last, in promotion, Mainz, who beat Hoffenheim (4-1) and moved up one place in the standings.

And Bo Henriksen’s team had to overcome the visitors’ initial goal scored by Pavel Kaderabek at the MEWA Arena. The strongest reaction came in the second half, with goals from Jonathan Burkardt, Austrian Phillipp Mwene, Brajan Gruda and Austrian Karim Onisiwo.
