The start of the 2024 season Formula 1 can be described as catastrophic. The French have not scored a point in four races and are the red lantern on the grid. The results were so poor that there was speculation that the team was being sold.
Bruno Famin has certainly spoken about this for F1 himself and the message could not be clearer: “The team is not for sale. “We have a project for the Alpine brand to reach the whole world through motorsport and specifically F1.”
Despite all the heads that rolled within the structure (Laurent Rossi as CEO, Otmar Szafnauer as team director, Pat Fry as technical director…), Famin insisted that the support of the Renault group, the brand of the parent, It is total.
Disappointed at the beginning
Alpine two years ago was the fourth best team all season with Alonso in its ranks but since the Asturian’s departure the decline has only increased. Last year they finished sixth but they are undoubtedly better than at the start of 2024. In four races the best result they have achieved is 13th. They never came close to scoring.
“It’s not a happy time. We don’t have what we want in terms of performance, we are not making the project to be P15 or P16.. “We want to be at the front, we want to develop the performance of the car, and we want to fight for podiums and victories as soon as possible.”
“The car we have today is the result of the previous management. But what matters is what we do now. And I’m happy with what we’re doing. Of course, the road is very long, and we have a lot to improve on.”
The future with Gasly and Ocon
The French team’s two French drivers are out of contract for 2025. Like most of the grid, they must find a place for the next campaign, either at Alpine or at another team. Famin did not comment on whether they will both remain with the team in future seasons.
“We are happy with our drivers and they with us. We often talk to them. We will see what we can do in the future. There are ups and downs. Now we are down but we have a strong long-term project. vision.
