Paula Badosa defeated Diana Shnaider 6-3, 6-4 and will face her friend and world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the round of 16 of the Stuttgart tournament. It was certainly the Pole who eliminated the Spaniard at the Miami Open just a few weeks ago.
Today they will face each other for the first time since the start of the clay season and if she overcomes the big challenge that Sabalenka represents, she will repeat the result she achieved last year in the tournament (quarterfinals).
Badosa’s first match in Stuttgart lasted one hour and 43 minutes and he defeated Shnaider in two sets (6-3 and 6-4). The Russian definitely beat the Catalan in the second round of Hua Hin (Thailand).
Badosa is playing to stay in the Top100 in the WTA ranking as she has the same points as the tennis player who closes the first hundred (737 points).
