Pato O’Ward won the IndyCar St. Petersburg GP, after Newgarden’s penalty

Date:

The Mexican Duck O’Ward (Arrow McLaren) this Wednesday achieved the victory of St. Petersburg GP (Florida) played on March 10, after the win Joseph Newgarden (Team Penske) was disqualified by IndyCar for violating the rules of using ‘push to pass’ (extra boost to facilitate overtaking).

IndyCar announces penalties for Team Penske, including disqualifications for no. 2 (Josef Newgarden) and no. 3 (Scott McLaughlin) and a 10 point penalty for no. 12 (Will Power) of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg,” IndyCar reported in a statement.

For this decision, Newgarden, McLaughlin and Power received a fine of $25,000 and they lost the economic prize won in St. Petersburg.

O’Ward took the official victory in that GP and the new table now sees the Spaniard Alex Palou (Chip Gannassi), current champion, taking third place, twelve points behind the leader, was New Zealander Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi).
