The Kenyan athlete Emmanuel Wanyonyi19, set a new world record in the road mile distance with a mark of 3:54.56 at the “Adizero: road to records” event that took place this Saturday at the adidas headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
Wanyonyi, 800m world runner-up in 2023, shaved nearly two seconds off the previous record of 3:56.13 set by Hobbs Kessler at the Road World Championships held last year in Riga, Latvia.
In Saturday’s race, Kessler was second to Wanyonyi in 3:56.18, followed by the South African Ryan Mphahlele who was third with 3:56.45.
Spanish 5 km record
In the same event, in the 5K test, the athlete Thierry Ndikumwenayo broke the Spanish record for the distance with a mark of 13:17, bettering by two seconds the previous national record of Oassim Oumaiz.
Ndikumwenayo, from Club Playas de Castellón, finished fifth, seventeen seconds behind the winner, the Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha (13:00).
