As rumors grew that the Norwegian Victor Hovland could be the next star to come in millionaire Arab Super League (LIV Golf)at least in the immediate future he will not leave the PGA Tour.
He number 7 in the World Ranking he confirmed that he will defend his title Travelers Championship in June, as announced by the organizers of the American circuit tournament.
Hovland missed the cut at the recent Masters, falling with a round of 81 on the second day, and retired next week at the RBC Heritage Classic at Hilton Head.
Hovland already had a similar performance in February when he withdrew from the Phoenix Open after a poor AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am the previous week.
Hovland has also denied his interest in joining LIV in the past, although players like Jon Rahm also said at the time that they would not leave the PGA Tour for the Super League and ended up ‘defecting’ for the astronomical amount of dollars.
Hovland, 26, won the FedEx Cup in 2023 after winning the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship in consecutive weeks. But his start to 2024 has been poor, with just one top-20 finish in six tournaments.
The Travelers will be held from June 20 to 23, one week after the US Open (Pinehurst No. 2, North Carolina). For the second consecutive year it is one of the ‘designated events’ with a prize of 20 million dollars.
