The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE), winner of the second stage of the Giro d’Italia and a new pink jerseyconsidered it “a dream come true” to become the leader and complete the cycle of victories in three grand tours.
“It’s a dream come true, an incredible achievement. After winning the Vuelta and the Tour, I managed to win a stage in all the grand tours. It’s not something everyone has and it’s something big in cycling,” the double Tour de France winner said excitedly.
Pogacar won solo after suffering a slight fall, recovering and soloing to the summit of Oropa.
“I wasn’t really afraid of what happened to me in the city, it happened after the puncture because I wanted to stop before the corner. The team got me back quickly,” he explained.
A stage victory on an unknown climb that will give the Slovenian a few days of rest before tackling other mountain stages.
“I don’t know the climb, but I think we have a good plan. I accelerated Rafal Majka’s last push. My dream is to wear the pink jersey and now I can relax for a few days,” he concluded.
