Invincible Leverkusen have no one to blame

Date:

No rival can challenge Xabi Alonso’s sensational Bayer Leverkusen, who are 48 games unbeaten after a comfortable victory in Frankfurt (1-5). The new Bundesliga champions sent sixth-placed Eintracht to a dressing-down day where they once again showed they are a relentless hammer. Now a return to the Europa League semi-finals against Roma awaits, a tie already on track with a 0-2 win at the Olympic Stadium.

The coach of Tolosa arranged eleven full of substitutes thinking about the challenges ahead and this did not go unnoticed by his team, which once again worked like clockwork despite the absence of key players such as Wirtz, Grimaldo, Tah, Frimpong, Hincapie and Boniface. The second unit did well to remain unbeaten.

In an open start to the match, Leverkusen took the lead thanks to a left-footed shot from Xhaka from outside the area before the end of the first quarter of an hour. Alonso’s team took over the match, with Tella hitting the right without stopping. They had chances to open the gap but in the visitors’ best moment came the equalizer from Ekitike, who hit a fine header from a poorly defended lateral free kick.

The 1-1 score set up the best minute for Eintracht, who were able to turn the score around with a brilliant one-on-one from Marmoush that went through the roof. The home team did not take advantage of the flood and on the brink of half-time, Schick scored a header to put Leverkusen back in front, fighting off rival blows like a man scaring off a cojonera fly.

In the second half, Eintracht raised their lines and restricted the visitors’ ball output, which allowed them to develop some dangerous strategies. But Leverkusen knows all the tricks and punishes the rival’s mistakes like no other. In a harmless play, as Tella moved away from the area, Nkounkou made the mistake of tackling him and the referee awarded a penalty. It’s just as obvious that it’s clumsy and avoidable. Exequiel Palacios did not disappoint and put the score in the middle with a score of 1-3 (58′).

From the third goal, Alonso’s team allowed themselves to think about what was to come, but Frankfurt did not know how to take advantage of the visitor’s rest to generate a clear scoring opportunity. In a counterattack, Frimpong, who had just entered, scored 1-4. In the 89th minute, Boniface scored the last 1-5 from a penalty. Leverkusen signed a new victory and remains unbeaten in history. He has five games left to keep him going until the end of a season that has become part of world football history.
