Last month passed in slow motion for Jaume Betriu. Since the Catalan rider broke four ribs at the end of April while training on the bike, the recovery process has become intense and demanding. But on the same weekend he will return to competition in the second round of the Spanish Enduro Championship, in Infiesto (Asturias), wanting to fight for victory.
The recovery has been progressive and the Coll de Nargó rider was able to start exercising his muscles a few weeks later, with the goal of not losing tone. In the revision which he underwent a month after the fall, doctors gave him OK after seeing that the fractures had healed correctly. That’s where the process of getting back on the KTM 500 EXC-F and working on his intercostal muscles began, which were shortened due to the injury sustained.
Although during these five weeks WP rider Éric Augé did not participate in the first two rounds of the 2022 Enduro World Championship (Lalín and Portugal), he did not miss any of the Nacional. In domestic competition, he leads the E3 category and is in the fight for the scratch, after the appointment to Santiago de Compostela, originally scheduled for last weekend, was postponed.
“I am very happy to be back in action today. It’s been a very long month for me because there have been World Cup races that I’ve missed and it’s been very intense in the physical section. I immediately got on the stationary bike and started doing some gym workouts, where I took the opportunity to strengthen my back and shoulders hard. I wanted to avoid risks and until the doctors gave me OK after a CAT scan a month after the crash, I would never ride the bike again. I really look forward to it because when I first rode the bike last week, I felt good from the first moment, with a bit of discomfort, but only because of the lack of running ”, Betriu said.
“In the last few days I took a break from the bike, but I continued to do physical work for the first race after the injury. It is important that I did not miss any appointment with the Nacional, so we are going to Asturias with a great desire to be well, to start little by little, in my usual rhythm from less to more.I will try to be in the forefront and fight for victory, which is my goal. Then we will stay a few days there because the Royal Spanish Motorcycling Federation makes pre-selection for Six Days ”.
Although his goals in EnduroGP will inevitably change, and now he will focus on competing races by race, Betriu looks forward to the coming weeks, which will take him from Infiesto to Carpineti (Italy, June 24-26 ) and Coimbra (Portugal). , July 1-3).
“After the weekend it is time to continue training with head and consistency to reach the top at the end of the month, because we will have two consecutive World Cup events, in Italy and Portugal. A good month of the competition awaits me, which is the most important thing and I face it with all the enthusiasm possible ”, he concluded, excited about his return to competition.
Jaume Betriu was injured on April 25 while training, after sticking his steering wheels into a hole and hitting the side of his body. The Catalan faces after the impact, without slipping, or looking back at himself, noticeably painful. After undergoing corresponding medical examinations, he was diagnosed with four rib fractures, two of which were displaced and ruptured, and a contusion in the lung, but no major bruises.
