The Spanish Alexander Davidovich Fokina surrendered this Saturday, in his first match at the 1,000 ATP Masters in Rome, against the Serbian Hamad Medjedovic (7-6(4) and 6-4), tennis player who went from the preliminary phase to the main draw.
The man from Malaga, the 30th favorite in the tournament, was out of his match against the number 121, who beat Australian Alexander Popyrin in the first round and reached the third round of the Masters 1,000 for the first time in his career. Davidovich, who lost in Madrid against Russian Andrey Rublev, the champion, in the third round, could not surpass that mark on Italian clay.
Because of the first set, in which he was up 3-1 thanks to a break, he surrendered a tie-break in which he was also the first to be broken. However, the 3 serves he dropped at the crucial moment condemned him to start from behind in the second set against one of the tennis players who show the most in Rome.
The Spaniard was not able to get out of that bad dynamic, as he gave his first serve, but he tried to break it with a ‘break’ in the next which allowed him to reach the end of the set with options, where he definitely gave up on losing his serve with 5 -4 in favor of Medjedovic.
In the third round, the Russian will appear for the Serbian Daniel Medvedevcurrent champion at the Foro Italico, who first had to win his duel against Englishman Jack Draper, number 40.
