Unprecedented announcement from Arsenal!

Date:

The women’s group Arsenal It will play at least eleven games next season at the Emirates, a stadium occupied by men all year round, the north London club announced on Tuesday, based on a record attendance. “The Emirates Stadium will be Arsenal’s premier women’s stadium,” they announced.

In detail, the Londoners will certainly play eight League games there, and three in the group stage of the Champions League, if they manage to qualify. If they manage to finish third in the league (the most likely hypothesis) Arsenal will have to go through two qualifying rounds to reach the Champions League. In both competitions, the knockout matches will also be played at the Emirates, it was specified. FA Cup matches, however, will continue to be played at Meadow Park, the stadium currently used by Arsenal’s women’s team and the under-21 team.

This season, Arsenal Women have played six league games at the Emirates, with an average attendance of 52,029 per game. Tickets were sold to two of them, according to the club. Overall, the average attendance is 32,618 spectators so far this season, with both stadiums combined, knowing that all matches at Meadow Park have been sold out, according to Arsenal.

Other major European teams play Champions League matches in men’s stadiums, which are bigger and better equipped, such as Lyon and Paris SG in France, or even FC Barcelona, Wolfsburg and Chelsea, among others. But the announcement made on Tuesday by Arsenal constitutes an unprecedented advance in terms of the number of matches to be played in a season in a stadium of these dimensions (60,704 seats).
